The Speed Queen ADE3SRGS173TW01 is part of the Clothes Dryertest program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Clothes Dryermodels like the ADE3SRGS173TW01 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.Drying performance: This score combines performance on three types of laundry loads of different sizes and fabric mixes: A 12-lb.
Load, predominantly cotton, representing a family's large weekly load; an 8-lb. Load of cotton/polyester blend clothing; and a 3-lb. Load of synthetic delicates, women's pajamas, nightgowns, bras and underwear.Convenience: For this measurement, we judged controls and ergonomics, such as ease of loading and unloading, servicing the lint filter, whether the door could clear a tall basket, and whether the machine has a raised edge to contain spills.Noise: This score was determined by a panel of judges who listened while machines dried an 8-pound load, measuring both sound quality and volume. Results in the following chart are gathered from Consumer Reports’ 2018 Fall Survey of 41,424 electric dryers, owned by members who purchased a new machine between 2008 and 2018.Our predicted brand reliability ratings are based on a statistical model that estimates problem rates within the first 5 years of ownership, for electric dryers that are not covered by an extended warranty or service contract. We also adjust for the median number of loads of laundry run through the machines per week. The median in our survey was 5 loads per week. Higher ratings are indicative of better reliability.
Brands receiving a red or orange rating cannot be recommended by CR at this time. Our owner satisfaction ratings are based on the proportion of members who are extremely likely to recommend their electric dryer brand to friends and family. ControlsControls Rotary dial: The desired cycle and options are selected using dials. They are generally easy to understand and use.Push button: The desired cycle and options are selected by pressing in pushbuttons. Like rotary controls, these are easy to use and understand.Touchpad: The desired cycle and options are selected using an electronic touchpad which generally includes a digital readout.
A touchpad can be more versatile than rotary and push button controls enabling you to program settings into memory, for instance.Touchscreen with display: The desired cycle and options are selected using an electronic touchscreen. A touchscreen can be more versatile than rotary, push button, and touchpad controls but it may be a bit more confusing, especially at first. Touchscreen controls can also provide step-by-step instructions, as well as feedback on cycle status. Touchscreen controls sometimes require you to page through several screens to choose options and features, which can be tedious.
Mayer,Thank you again for all your suggestions! It turned out that the 25' of straight 4' duct was pretty clogged with 14 years worth of lint!
The lint from the duct filled my my shop vac to the rim! The dryer ended up overheating the heat coils over time to the point that one of the porcelain spacers broke.
I replaced the heating coils with a thermal kit # 279816 along with the thermostat, thermal cutoff and the thermal fuse. The kit came with a jumper wire which was a small challenge because there was an orange wire I didn't have as part of the dryer.
I still used the jumper wire to go from the thermostat to the element. I turned on the dryer and it seems to run without tripping the breaker or making any unusual electric noises! I am about to run a load in the dryer to fully test my work!
Thanks again for steering me in the correct direction. I am guessing that the dryer will last another 6 years, so long as I clean the duct every year! Take luck, Frankby. I have a GE DBVH512 and it was shutting off after 3 minute when running on high. After 5 minutes the power comes back on and it runs fine. It runs fine on medium heat without stopping.
I checked the lint filter, piping, and hose and there was no blockage. I also cleaned all of them out and it still continued to do it.
I even vacuumed out the inside (including the motor). There were no error codes when I tried to pull them.Had a professional come out and went through the same process of cleaning and found a large amount of lint on the vent on top of the roof. He ran it empty and it ran fine, but when we put cloths in later we had the same problem (my wife suggested running it with cloths in it when he was here, but he told her that this wouldn't make a difference). On the return trip, they replaced the thermostat and said if that doesn't solve the problem; we may want to replace the control board. Now the dryer is shutting off twice when running it on the high cycle. They want $300.00 for the board.
Any suggestions?by. First unplug it for 5 minutes to allow it to reset.Thermal FuseThe thermal fuse helps to prevent a dryer fire by shutting off power to the dryer if it overheats. If the dryer won't start check this fuse first. Test the thermal fuse with an ohm meter or continuity checker. This is the most common part to fail when the dryer won't start. Once the thermal fuse has blown, it has to be replaced. It can not be reset.Start SwitchThe start switch is on the dryer control panel.
Depending on the model, either press a button or turn a dial to start the dryer. If the start switch fails the dryer won't start or make any noise. Test the switch with an ohm meter or continuity checker. If the dryer hums when the start switch is activated, or if the motor runs only while activating the start switch, the motor might be defective or something might be binding the drum preventing it from turning freely. If the dryer start switch does not have continuity when it is activated, it will need to be replaced.Door SwitchThe door switch is located near the dryer door and is activated when the door is closed.
If the door switch fails, the dryer won't start at all. Most door switches will make an audible click when they are activated. If the door switch makes a clicking sound when activated it is probably not defective. If it doesn't make a click, it can be checked with an ohm meter or continuity checker.
The door switch is relatively easy to replace and is usually not very expensive.
